This week we will be working on your speech and the book group. Something you should do at home to prepare for this is look up a published quotation for your speech.
Students will meet with their groups on Friday to discuss their book(s) and fill in their logs. Possible groupings for these logs are:
Four people: Two books (two people reading one book and two people reading the other)
Four people: Two books (three people reading one book and one person reading the other)
You will need to complete 4 book logs with your group, so divide the pages of your book accordingly. Your first log is due May 8th and 9th

Write an original poem. It needs to be one of the types of poems found on pages IN8-IN9 of your Literature Books. There should be a theme included in your poem, meaning it cannot be random or silly. It cannot be a limerick or a Haiku. Be prepared to have it read by one or you peers looking for: symbols, theme, figurative language, and character(s) (either human or personified). You do not have to have all of these, but please include as many as possibly for the purpose of the activity. Your peer will also try to figure out what type of poem it is, so please do not include the type of poem anywhere on your paper.

For example: Manicure for the root "man" (hand, make or do), NOT mansion which contains the root but has no connection to any of the root's definitions. Remember that using as many definitions as possible will help you study for the test.

2) a topic sentence, two concrete details, and a transitional sentence in your body paragraph

point, and a rebuttal (your rebuttal can restate a later argument)
4) a conclusion that wraps up the points you made throughout your graphic organizer and is memorable
