Hello and welcome to English 7 - room R8

This is where you will find out the assignments for the week and see reference to the long term work that will be due for the class.  Since this is the first week, there is not much to note, but there are some pieces of information that are due this week.

Week of 5/14 - 18 -

This week is all about getting ready for the speeches.  Practice, practice, practice.

Week of 5/7 - 5/11

Follow calendar for speech check-ins.  This week signatures and topic selection due on Monday and organizer due on Friday. 

Don't forget Open House on Thursday - projects all around the room -

Week of 4/30 - 5/4

STAR testing this week so no homework.  We will draw for speech order this week for the day to deliver the speeches.  Projects are of course due Monday. 

Week of 4/23 - 27

The only homework this week is to finish the project and deliver it to school on Monday, 4/30.  We will check the spelling worksheet on Th/F and have a spelling test on Monday.

STAR testing begins next week on Tuesday.  The only homework will be to start your speeches. Be sure to follow the calendar on the speech assignment packet.

Week of 4/9 - 13

Tuesday and Wednesday of this week we will be doing the on-demand district writing in class.  Be sure to prepare for this at home.  On Thursday and Friday, we will be taking the final Giver test.  Be sure to review your study sheet

in preparation. 

Homework - Have your theme statement ready for review on T/W so that I can give you input while you are doing the district writing. Also, label each chapter 1 - 23 with a short name to let you know what happened in that chapter. 

Other than that, keep working on your project for the due date of April 30.

Week of 4/2 -

DATE CHANGE - Outside reading project due 4/30 - Monday

Finish Giver both in class and outside of class.

Week 4 vocabulary due Th/F

Week of 3/26 -

Read chapters 12 -16 in the Giver this week (due Monday). 

Vocab due Th/F and test on Monday.

Spelling due Th/F and test on Monday.

Instructions for the project - Everything Has Its Cost - connecting the Giver with your outside reading book will be given out T/W - follow the instructions on that and the due dates. 

Week of 3/19 -

Read Chapters 6 through 11 in the Giver by Monday.  Vocabulary is due on Friday with a test on Monda.

Rewrites of the on demand (if students decided to rewrite or correct) are due T/W

Don't forget late start on Friday.

Week of 3/12 -

Giver vocab due Th/F - read chapters 2 - 5 in the book by Monday. Vocab test Monday.

Final comma test Th/F

On-demand essay evaluation and possible rewrites due T/W, 3/20.21.

Week of 3/5 -

As you know this week is getting ready for the state STAR writing and as such there is not a lot of homework.  Your comma worksheet is due tomorrow and your spelling homework is due on Th/F with the test on Monday.

There will be a comma quiz each day this week with the goal of getting a perfect score on the test.  We will read "Harrison Bergeron" Th/F of this week to get ready to start The Giver next week.

Study your writing genre sheet tonight to get ready for the test.

Week of 2/27 -

Spelling worksheet - Unit 27 due Th/F and test on 3/5

Summary organizer due T/W on Monsters Are Due on Maple Street

Comma worksheet given T/W and due Th/F

All week we will be reviewing writing genres in preparation for the STAR writing test which will be administered on Tuesday 3/6.

Week of 2/13-

Responses will be handed back on T/W and rewrites will be due on 2/27/

In class on Th/F, there will be an on demand Response to Literature which will be graded.

After finishing "Monsters", there will be a worksheet due the next class period.

Week of 2/6 -

The big issue for this week is the RTL.  Self editing sheet is homework for Monday night.

Bring rough draft on T/W for peer editing and the final copy of the essay

Week of 1/30 -

Vocabuary for Two Kinds due 1/31 - 2/1.  Test on 2/2,3.

Pronoun and antecedent quiz on Th/F.

Begin RTL in class this week on T/W.  If you have a flash drive, bring it - then you will be able to edit at home rather than to retype.  RTL due 2/9,10

Week of January 23 -

Congratulation on making it to the second half of the year.

Week of January 17 -

Review Figurative Language for possible retake of that part of the Beowulf test.

Finish RTL organizer for Christmas Carol if necessary. Do self analysis of the organizer.

Read" Papa's Parrot" in lit book.

Week of January 9 -

Sentence work due T/W to prepare for sentence quiz Th/F

Week of December 19 -

Speeches and A Christmas Carol - that's all.

Make sure to complete your outside reading book over the vacation - we will do a project on it when we return.

Have a lovely and restful time over the break.

Week of December 12 -

This week's work is really to work on speeches and be prepared to excel at the presentation.  After we are finished each day, we will read Christmas Carol and work on sentence types.

Beowulf test T/W - study:  vocabulary, indirect and direct characterization, theme in Beowulf, facts about the        origin   of the epic, figurative language examples in the book, epic definition and elements of hero cycle, countries of the main characters.

Week of November 21 -

In class we will be working on the spelling bee.

The only thing to worry about today for the rest of the week is the rough draft which is an exact copy of what your story should look like if it were perfect.  It will be peer editied in class on Tues/Wed.  Final copy will then be due Th/F.

Fill out student information sheet and have a parent sign it.  Due Tuesday 8/22

Read Requirement sheet with parent and complete the signature portion of the sheet.  Bring this sheet and your      supplies by Th/F.

Questions for "My Name" by Sandra Cisneros are due on Wednesday.  The selection is easily found online by searching the title and the author if you need to refer to the selection.

Homework regarding your own name is due on Th/F after getting the assignment for the name essay.

We will visit the library on Th/F to get an outside reading book. 

My Name project is due 9/1 on that minimum day.
