GRADING POLICY

Participation and Attendance (25 points each week)

Participation is crucial to the success of an ensemble. Daily attendance and participation is the largest percentage of your grade. Attendance requirements include being on time and prepared for class. Students will be credited with 25 participation points each week, (approximately 250 points per quarter) regardless of how many school days are in the week. Students can get a perfect score if they show that they are ready to learn.

However, students can loose points for the following infractions:

Gum – 5

Tardy – 2

Unexcused Absence – 5

Performance (100 points each) ALL performances are mandatory. This is a performance–based class therefore it is important that you attend all performances. In the event that an emergency arises, please contact me immediately. Most of the performances are held out of class time; therefore, I understand that conflicts may arise. I must be notified of the conflict prior to performance so I can make necessary arrangements for a written make up work.

Classwork – (5 points each) Music theory worksheet/activity will be done during the first ten minutes every first block day of the week.

Singing Assessment (5 points each) There will be tests given throughout the term in order to assess students’ knowledge and understanding. The singing assessment will include singing a passage on an assigned song. You will be given plenty of notice prior to the assessment.
