MAKE-UPS:
When a student does not participate, the work must be made up, as is the case in an academic class. If a student is absent or fails to participate, a make-up must be completed and a medical note must be provided. Students have until the end of the current academic quarter to make up any missed participation.
MISSED PARTICIPATION:
Students have two options to make up missed participation days : They can write about a personal sports experience, OR complete a summary of a sports or health article (see below). If you know in advance of your absence, you can turn a make-up in before you are gone. Either assigment should contain 2 paragraphs or more. Each paragraph should consist of 5 to 8 sentences, using proper English.
On your paper make sure to put:
Name __________________ Roll # _____ Period ____
Date of Absence ______________________
• Option 1: From a newspaper, magazine, journal, or other media source, choose a current article on fitness, health, nutrition or a sports related topic. Read the article and prepare a written summary highlighting the main ideas and interesting concepts presented. It must be at least two paragraphs in length. Your summary may be typed or hand written (in ink), but must be neatly presented. Please attach the original article to your summary.
• Option 2: If students participate in a sport and wish to write about their experience in this sport, they can submit the same length composition, but there would be no article to attach.
MISSED WORKOUT: In the case of a missed workout, students will complete a timed mile run. It is the student’s responsibility to arrange a time with their teacher to complete this make-up.
MEDICAL NOTES:
If a student cannot participate in physical education for any health reason during the school year, he/she must bring a signed / dated note stating the reason and duration for not participating in physical education.
FROM A DOCTOR:
Notes from a doctor may excuse the student from making up missed workouts, but not the participation assignment. In this case the student must bring a signed / dated note from the doctor, stating the reason and duration for not participating in physical education. Please make 2 copies of the note, providing one to the office and one to the PE teacher.
FROM A PARENT:
Unlike a doctor's note, parent notes do not excuse a student from eventually having to make up a workout. Notes from a parent are good for up to one week and should be given to the teacher at the beginning of the class period. These are limited to five days per quarter. (A written assignment is required to each day to receive points along with a physical workout make-up for every missed workout.)

GRADING:
The physical education evaluation process is based on participation, attitude, workouts, assessments, and physical fitness development. It is expected that each student will develop their fitness to the best of their own individual ability. Grades are based on a percentage of possible points: 100% - 90% A, 89% - 80% B, 79% - 70% C, 69% - 60%, D, 59% - 0% F.
Students earn ten points each day for P.E. participation.
In addition to daily points, students will frequently receive up to five points in the event of a workout and up to ten points for the timed mile.
Additional points might be earned due to written work, tests, etc.
POSSIBLE DEDUCTIONS:
If a student does not earn full credit for participation, common reasons for deductions include:
• Absences or non-particpation that has not been made up (deduction up to 10 points)
• Tardies (-2)
• Lack of effort (deduction based on teacher discretion)
• Gum chewing (-2)
• Food or drink (besides water) during class (-2)
• Failure to wear P.E. uniform (-2)
• Inappropriate behavior (deduction based on teacher discretion)
